IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: QUAD-WINNER WHITLEY LEADS WAVERLY TO 100-68 WIN OVER O-M (24 PHOTOS) (2019-10-08)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY "” Junior Maggie Whitley was a quad-winner, and four of her teammates were double-winners, to lead Waverly to a 100-68 win over Odessa-Montour here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.
Sophomores Lourden Benjamin, Willow Sharpsteen, and Delaney Vascoe, and freshman Sophia Desisti were double-winners for the Lady Wolverines, who improve to 6-3.
Whitley, Benjamin, Vascoe, and Sharpsteen teamed to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:11.49.
Whitley won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.79 seconds, and sophomore Nicole Bunke was third in 32.46 seconds.
Whitley also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:02.78, and Vascoe was second in 1:04.27.
Whitley teamed with DeSisti, Benjamin and Sharpsteen to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:59.84.
Sharpsteen won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:10.68, and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols was second in 1:20.6, while Benjamin won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.16.
Desisti won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:24.69, and junior Mara Callear was second in 2:30.76.
Vascoe won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:24.23, and DeSisti was second in 1:33.29.
In exhibition, freshman Josie VanDyke won the 1-meter diving competition with 148.3 points.
Also in exhibition, Desisti, Vascoe, Callear, and Nichols swam the fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:28.62.
Benjamin was second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:35.92, and Sharpsteen was third in 2:37.19.
Callear finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:50.28, and senior Luci Burnett was third in 7:39.03.
Waverly returns to action Thursday when it hosts Notre Dame.
