SAYRE — Junior Cody VanBenthuysen, freshman Brayden Post, and sophomore Mason Hughey accounted for all of Sayre’s offense in a 7-0 win over Towanda here Tuesday afternoon in NTL boys soccer action.
VanBenthuysen scored four goals and had one assist, while Post scored one goal and dished out four assists, and Hughey added two goals and one assist.
The win is Sayre's third of the season — and third against Towanda.
Post opened the scoring, off a feed from VanBenthuysen in the 13th minute of the game, then VanBenthuysen notched an unassisted goal 12 minutes later to make it 2-0.
Hughey put his name in the scoring column, off an assist from Post, with 9:47 left in the first half to give a 3-0 lead.
Talon Irish put Towanda on the board with 4:25 left, and Sayre led 3-1 at the half.
Hughey set up VanBenthuysen’s first goal of the second half with 32:58 remaining in the contest.
Post orchestrated the final three Sayre scores, assisting on a goal by VanBenthuysen with 26:26 remaining, and a goal by Hughey nearly three minutes later to make it 6-1. VanBenthuysen capped the scoring with 1:16 left in the game.
Sayre had a 19-8 advantage in shots-on-goal, while Towanda had a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
Gunner McCutcheon recorded seven saves in net for the Redskins.
Sayre, now 3-10-1, returns to action Thursday at Williamson.
