IAC BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: WRIGHT LEADS WAVERLY TO DIVISIONAL MEET TEAM TITLE (23 PHOTOS) (2019-10-08)

NEWARK VALLEY —Junior Collin Wright finished second to lead five Waverly runners across the finish line in the top 15, pacing the Wolverines to team title here Tuesday afternoon at the IAC South Divisional cross country meet.

Waverly tallied 46 points, while runner-up Watkins Glen had 58, and third-place Newark Valley had 62. Tioga finished seventh with 176 points.

Wright clocked in at 17:26.3, well off the pace of first-place finisher Gabe Planty of Watkins Glen, who finished in 17:01.7.

Sophomore Nate Ackley was eighth in 18:13.0 for the Wolverines, while senior Brandon Bubniak was 10th in 18:38.1, sophomore Kaden Wheeler was 14th in 19:05.2, and sophomore Liam Traub was 15h in 19:09.1.

Sophomore Hunter Elston was 25th in a time of 20:11.7, while sophomore Matt Atanasoff was 34th in 21:12.9, sophomore Sam VanDyke was 37th in 21:35.9, sophomore Gavin Schillmoeller was 40th in 21:47.6, and freshman Jerrel Sackett was 41st in 21:48.2.

Senior Ty Middendorf finished 22nd in a time of 19:52.7 to lead Tioga, while freshman Thomas Hurd finished 24th in a time of 20:07.5, junior Kyle Earley was 59th in a time of 25:27.3, freshman Max Dydynski was 61st in 25:30.3, junior Zach Nichols was 70th in 29:17.9, sophomore Colt Herrala was 72nd in 30>22.5, and sophomore Zander Whitmore was 73rd in 30:39.0.

Waverly and Tioga return to action Friday at the Newark Valley Invite.
