NEWARK VALLEY — Elizabeth Vaughn and Harper Minaker finished 1-2 in the girls race, and Liam Wright was second in the boys race to lead Waverly’s efforts here Tuesday in the junior high portion of the IAC South Divisional cross country meet.
The Lady Wolverines had just four runners, and did not factor in the team standings, while the boys finished second to Newark Valley in the team title chase.
Tioga finished third in the girls race, and did not field a full team in the boys race.
Vaughn clocked in at 10:37.8, while Minaker crossed the finish line in 10:46.8, while Allison Barrett was 17th in 12:37.8, and Destiny Forbes was 22nd in 13:34.9.
Emily Burrowes placed sixth in 11:32.9 to pace Tioga’s efforts, while Lexy Ward finished 11th in 12:15.0, Patience Card was 21st in 12:13.7, Sara Burrowes was 26th in 14:08.7, and Selena LaFritz was 32nd in 17:00.7.
Newark Valley won the team title with 22 placement points, while Edison was second with 46 points, and Tioga tallied 63 points.
Wright led three Waverly runners in the top 10 in the boys race.
Newark Valley won the team title with 41 placement points, while Waverly had 49 points, third-place Edison had 61, and fourth-place SVEC had 71.
Wright clocked in at 9:43.2, while Jake VanHouten was seventh in 10:13.8, and Payton Fravel was 10th in 10:25.2.
Hayden Larson finished 18th for the Wolverines in a time of 10:50.8, while Riley Pipher (11:27.1) and Ben Norton-Lantz (11:30.7) were 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
Ben Davis finished 14th in a time of 10:37.1 to lead Tioga’s efforts, while Isaiah Fore was 21st in 11:11.5.
