ON TAP TODAY: FALL SEASON WINDING DOWN (2019-10-10)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY - The regular season is winding down, and today's docket features Waverly's final home game on the boys soccer pitch, and Tioga field hockey's final game of 2019.
Also, Athens volleyball hosts unbeaten powerhouse North Penn-Liberty, and the Waverly girls host Notre Dame in the pool.
BOYS SOCCER
Athens (12-1 overall, 9-0 NTL) at Wellsboro (11-3, 8-1), 5:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 5-0 win over NEB Tuesday, and have a chance to clinch the NTL title tonight against its main league rival, Wellsboro, which beat Galeton 10-1 Tuesday.
Athens won the first meeting of the two teams this season, 3-0, at Alumni Stadium.
Sayre (3-10-1) at Williamson (7-7), 4 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off a 7-1 win over Towanda, while the Warriors are coming off a 3-2 loss to Coudersport Friday.
In their first meeting, Williamson pulled out a 5-4 decision at the Lockhart Street Bowl.
Notre Dame at Waverly (1-9-1), 6 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a 4-1 loss at Newark Valley Tuesday night, and will host Notre Dame tonight in their final home game of 2019. The Crusaders are coming off a 6-0 loss at SVEC.
Notre Dame won their first meeting this season, 2-1.
VOLLEYBALL
North Penn-Liberty (12-0) at Athens (9-3), 6 p.m. JV start: The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 3-1 win over Sayre Monday, while the Lady Mountaineers swept Troy.
NP-L has not dropped a set all season to an NTL opponent, and has lost just one set all season - to Horseheads.
In their first meeting, NP-L swept Athens by scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-5.
Sayre (3-10) at Wyalusing (6-9), 6 p.m. JV start: The Lady Redskins are coming off a 3-1 loss at Athens Monday, while the Lady Rams swept Sugar Valley Rural Charter School.
Sayre has lost six of seven since rallying for a 3-2 win over Wyalusing on Sept. 19.
FIELD HOCKEY
Tioga (2-13) at SVEC (5-7), 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Tigers are coming off a 5-0 loss to Moravia Tuesday, and wrap up the 2019 campaign at SVEC this afternoon. The Lady Eagles dropped a 1-0 decision to Moravia Friday.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Notre Dame at Waverly (6-3), 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Wolverines are coming off a 100-68 win over O-M Tuesday, and topped the Lady Crusaders 98-66 in their first meeting this season.
