IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: WAVERLY TOPS NOTRE DAME, 91-55, FOR FOURTH WIN IN A ROW (2019-10-10)

WAVERLY "” Junior Maggie Whitley was a triple-winner, and sophomores Lourden Benjamin and Willow Sharpsteen won two events apiece to lead Waverly to a 91-55 win over Notre Dame here Thursday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.

The Lady Wolverines have won four meets in a row and are 6-3 on the season.

Benjamin, sophomore Delaney Vascoe, Sharpsteen and Whitley teamed to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:10.76

Whitley won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.13 seconds, and sophomore Nicole Bunke was third in 32.54 seconds. Whitley also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.56, and Benjamin was second in 1:03.24.

Benjamin won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.4, and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols was second in 1:18.98.

Sharpsteen won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:10.34 and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols was  second in 1:18.96.

Freshman Sophia DeSisti won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:19.29, and senior Luci Burnett was third in 2:55.43.

Freshman Josie VanDyke won the 1-meter diving competition with a score 156.35 points.

In exhibition, Vascoe led a sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:23.62, while DeSisti was second in 1:35.97, and Bunke was third in 1:41.95.

Vascoe finished second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:36.58, and Sharpsteen was third third in 2:37.58.

Burnett finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 7:28.62, and junior Rachel Smith was third in 8:03.12.

Waverly returns to action Tuesday at Maine-Endwell.
