NEWARK VALLEY "" Seniors Sheridan Talada and Elizabeth Fritzen turned in top-10 performances here Friday afternoon to help Waverly to a sixth-place finish in the annual Bob Greene Newark Valley Cross Country Invitational.
Small school powerhouse Delhi won the team title with 70 placement points, while Notre Dame was second with 77 points, and West Genesee and Lansing tied for third with 120 points. Waverly tallied 252 points, while Athens was 20th with 477 points, and Tioga did not field a complete team.
Talada crossed the finish line in third place in a time of 20:13.1, and Fritzen was ninth in 21:13.9 in the field of 142 runners.
Senior Paige Ackley finished 26th in a time of 22:27.7, while sophomore Aubrey Akins was 113th in 27:52.9, senior Rachel Ovedovitz was 129th in 30:29.4, and senior Kaylee Akins was 130th in 30:36.3.
Freshman Emma Bronson finished 33rd in a time of 22:40.4 to lead Athens, while sophomore Elizabeth Carey was 115th in 28:01.8, sophomore Emily King was 126th in 30:01.7, freshman Abby Prickitt was 132nd in 31:07.4, and sophomore Raven McCarthy-Gardner was 137th in 33:33.3.
Sophomore Mariah Nichols finished 94th in a time of 26:54.2 to lead Tioga, while sophomore Kate Burrowes was 120th in 28:38.9, and Nicole DeBoer was 140th in 35:24.4.
MODIFIED / JUNIOR HIGHSara Bronson finished second in the modified race, and two of her teammates finished in the top 20 to lead Athens a second-place finish in the team standings.
Elmira won the team title with 68 placement points, while Athens tallied 91, and third-place was 129th in 20:29.4Horseheads had 107.
Bronson clocked in at 9:41.8, while Cailyn Conklin finished 16th in 10:36.8, and Thea Bentley was 18th in a time of 10:37.8 in a field of 143 runners.
Emily Henderson finished 33rd for Athens in a time of 11:02.7. while Janae Harkins was 37th in 11:05.5, and Neena Sanders was 133rd in 15:23.9.
Harper Minaker finished 22nd in a time of 10:50.6 to lead Waverly's efforts, while Allison Barrett was 75th in 12:10.7, and Destiny Forbes was 89th in 12:46.9.
Emily Burrowes led Tioga with a 44th-place finish in a time of 11:21.4, while Lexy Ward was 67th in 12:00.4, Sara Burrowes was 120th in 13:39.1, and Brooke Delmage was 123rd in 13:59.2.
