IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: WATKINS GLEN FINISHES OFF UNBEATEN REGULAR SEASON WITH 108-73 WIN OVER WAVERLY (2019-10-17)

WATKINS GLEN - Watkins Glen won 10 of the first 11 events to finish off an unbeaten regular season with a 108-73 win over Waverly here Thursday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.

Junior Maggie Whitley was the only Waverly winner in the first 11 events, finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.33 seconds. She was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.92.

With Watkins Glen swimming the event in exhibition, the Waverly foursome of senior Luci Burnett, junior Mara Callear, sophomore Delaney Vascoe, and freshman Sophia Desisti teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:43.61.

Sophomore Willow Sharpsteen finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:07.94, while Callear was second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:38.56.

Sophomore Lourden Benjamin finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in time of 1:13.30, and Rachel Shambo was third in 1:37.22. Benjamin finished third in the 200-yard in the 200-yard IM in 2:36.41.

Sophomore Delaney Vascoe finished second in a time of 1:26.13, and Desisti was third in 1:35.13. Desisti also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:25.68.

Waverly returns to action Oct. 26 in the IAC swimming & diving championships at Watkins Glen.
