NTL BOYS SOCCER: SUMNER NETS 50TH CAREER GOAL IN 11-0 WIN OVER GALETON (22 PHOTOS) (2019-10-18)

ATHENS "” Senior Jesse Sumner tallied five goals, including his 50th career goal, and senior Aaron Lane netted a hat trick and doled out four assists in an 11-0 win over Galeton here Thursday night in NTL boys soccer action at Alumni Stadium.
The game was the final home contest for a group of stellar seniors, who have enjoyed unparalleled success, including two District 4 titles and a runner-up finish in the last three seasons. They are: Luke Arnold, Jesse Sumner, David Scheftic, Aaron Lane, Doug Vosburg, Alex Rowe, Joel Maslin, Jake Corino, Carson Stanfield, and Oscar Johnson.

Sumner became the third Wildcat this season to hit the 50-goal milestone, joining the half-century club with fellow seniors Aaron Lane and senior Luke Arnold.

Arnold, who had one goal and three assists, put the Wildcats on the board, off an assist from Lane, less than five minutes into the contest.

Lane, off feeds from senior Alex Rowe and Arnold, scored twice in a four-minute span to extend the lead to 3-0.

Sumner scored twice, both on assists from Lane, to give Athens a 5-0 lead with 17:34 remaining the first half.

Senior  David Scheftic added to the lead with 13:20 left in the first half, off a feed from Sumner, to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead, which it carried into the halftime intermission.

After Lane, off a feed from senior Doug Vosburg, made it 7-0, and Sumner scored three goals in three minutes to extend the lead to 10-0. Lane assisted on the first Sumner goal, and Arnold assisted on the next two.

Junior Tyler Chambers, off an assist from sophomore Nate Quinn, closed out the scoring with 22:01 left in the contest.

Athens outshot Galeton, 29-2, while the Tigers had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Athens junior Asher Ellis had two saves in net.

Athens, now 14-3 on the season, closes out the regular season Saturday night at Ithaca.
