IAC BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: WAVERLY'S WRIGHT FINISHES THIRD, LEADS WOLVERINES TO THIRD-PLACE FINISH (23 PHOTOS) (2019-11-01)

MARATHON "” Junior Collin Wright and sophomore Nate Ackley finished in the top eight to lead Waverly to a third-place finish here Friday afternoon at the IAC boys cross country championships.

Watkins Glen claimed the IAC title with 57 placement points, while runner-up Newark Valley had 81 points, and Waverly tallied 84. Tioga finished 13th with 323 points.

Newark Valley sophomore Jonny Sherwood won IAC gold in a time of 17:22.2, and Watkins Glen senior Gabe Planty won the silver medal in a time of 17:26.2.

Wright finished third in a time of 17:45.2, while sophomore Nate Ackley was eighth in 18:12.6, and junior Jayden Rose was 20th in 19:03.8.

Sophomore Liam Traub finished 26th for the Wolverines in 19:26, while senior Brandon Bubniak was 27th in 19:32.5, sophomore Kaden Wheeler was 53rd in 20:48.2, and sophomore Gavin Schillmoeller was 71st in 21:51.8.

Freshman Thomas Hurd finished 29th to lead Tioga, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:35.2, while senior Ty Middendorf was 52nd in a time of 20:40.7, sophomore Mason Card was 77th in 22:24.5, and sophomore Josh Reis was 84th in 23:32.3.

Junior Kyle Earley was 90th for the Tigers in a time of 24:44.8, and sophomore Colt Herrala was 91st in 25:53.5.

JV RACE

Sophomore Sam VanDyke and freshman Jerrell Sackett paced Waverly's in the junior varsity race.

VanDyke finished eighth in a time of 21:28.6, and Sackett was 11th in 21:43.6, while sophomore Matt Atanasoff was 16th in 22:24.1, and sophomore Joe Fritzen was 28th in 26:08.9.

Tioga, which finished fifth in the JV team standings, was paced by freshman Max Dydynski, who finished 24th in a time of 24:18.2.

Junior Zach Nichols (27:01.8) and sophomore Dawson Philhower (27:22.3) finished 32nd and 33rd, respectively, for the Tigers, while sophomore Zander Whitmore was 36th in 20:03.3, sophomore Jack Cary was 39th in 35:49.0, and sophomore Reed Cook was 40th in 36:50.3.
