THE VALLEY "" Tioga opens defense of its Section IV, Class D title this afternoon, and Sayre senior Kayla Hughey will run in the PIAA, Class A Cross Country Championship this morning. Tonight, Athens hosts Waverly on the gridiron in the season-finale for both teams.

FOOTBALL
Section IV Playoffs
Class D Semifinals
Tioga (8-0) vs. Delhi (6-2), 3 p.m. @ Johnson City H.S.:
The Tigers, ranked No. 1 in Class D in New York State, is coming off a 47-32 win over Deposit-Hancock, while the Bulldogs, ranked 12th, topped Bainbridge-Guilford, 41-21.

The winner will take on the winner of Walton, ranked 5th, and Greene, ranked 11th, game, which kicks off at noon at Johnson City.

Waverly (3-5) at Athens (1-9), 7 p.m. @ Alumni Stadium:
The Wolverines are coming off a 27-7 loss to powerhouse Chenango Forks, while the Wildcats dropped a 21-14 decision to arch-rival Sayre in the "Rusty Rail" game.

This is the first meeting of the two Valley rivals since 2012, which the Wolverines won 24-21.

CROSS COUNTRY
PIAA Championships, 9:30 a.m. @ Hershey:
Sayre senior Kayla Hughey, who finished fifth at last week's District 4 Championships, will run in the PIAA Class A Championships in Hershey this morning.
