COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD COURTNEY WINS TWICE TO HELP VIRGINIA TO PAIR OF VICTORIES AT CAVALIER DUALS (2019-11-03)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Athens grad Brian Courtney, a redshirt sophomore on the University of Virginia wrestling team, went 2-0 Saturday to help nationally-ranked UVA to a pair of wins in its season-opening Cavalier Duals.

Wrestling at 141 pounds, Courtney decked Aldair Moran in 29 seconds to help Virginia to a 50-3 win over Southern Virginia.

Later in the day, Courtney earned a hard-fought, 2-0, decision over Maryland's Hunter Baxter, with a second-period reversal. The Cavaliers topped the Terps, 34-6.

Courtney, who was 8-3 at 133 pounds last season, was granted a medical redshirt after a season-ending knee injury last year. He was 21-9 during his redshirt season in 2017-18.

The Cavaliers are back in action today at the Southeast Open.
