YOUTH BASKETBALL: FOUR LOCAL ELKS HOOP SHOOT WINNERS ADVANCE TO DISTRICTS (2019-11-06)

WAVERLY - Michael Sutryk, Porter Daddona, McKenna Jarvis, and Chase Satterly won their age groups at the local Elks Hoop Shoot competition, sponsored by the Sayre Elks Lodge #1148 with assistance from the Waverly Recreation Department, here Saturday at the Elm Street School.

Satterly and Sutryk won the "Most Outstanding Shooters" award with the top two scores of the day.

Sutryk won the 8 & 9-year-old Boys Division by making 17 of 25 free-throw attempts, while Maddex Presher finished second with 14 makes, and Sam Cheresnowsky was third with 12.

In the 10- & 11-year-old Boys Division, Dadonna and Griffin Walter tied in regulation with a 9-for-25 performance. Dadonna was 5-for-5 in the tiebreaker to claim the victory. Walter finished second, and Derek Johnson finished third by making 3 of 5 shots in overtime to edge fourth-place Brycen Wood.

Jarvis won the 10- & 11-year-old Girls Division by making 11 of 25 free-throw attempts, while Payton Sutryk made 4 of 5 in overtime to edge Maci Wheeler for second place.

Satterly sunk 21 of 25 to win the 12- & 13-year-old Boys Division to beat defending champion Hogan Shaw, who made 15. John Cheresnowsky finished third.

The winners advance to the District Championship in Berwick on Jan. 18, 2020. The District winners will compete at the Pa. State Championship at a later date at Penn State.
