SECTION IV GIRLS SWIMMING: WAVERLY ADVANCES SIX SWIMMERS, THREE RELAYS TO SECTION IV CHAMPIONSHIPS (24 PHOTOS) (2019-11-06)
Valley Sports ReportOWEGO "” Waverly advanced six swimmers, and all three relays from Tuesday's Class B preliminaries to Saturday's Section IV girls swimming championships at Watkins Glen High School.
The top 16 swimmers in each individual event, and the top eight relays advance to Saturday's action.
Sophomores Lourden Benjamin, Delaney Vascoe, and Willow Sharpsteen, and junior Maggie Whitley teamed to finish fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:08.32.
Benjamin, Sharpsteen, and Whitley teamed with freshman Sophia DeSisti to finish fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a mite of 1:54.14.
Benjamin finished sixth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:29.31, and Vascoe was seventh in 2:31.47 - more than five second faster than her seed time. Sharpsteen was 11th in 2:37.89.
Sharpsteen finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:08.64,
Benjamin finished seventh in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:07.63 - nearly 1 1/2-seconds faster than her seed time.
Vascoe, Desisti, sophomore Mackenzie Nichols, and senior Mara Callear teamed to finish sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:28.95.
Desisti finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.33.
Vascoe finished 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:21.2.
Whitley finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.3 seconds. She also finished 13th in the 100-yard freestyle in a mite of 1:03.37
Callear finished 14th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:41.25.
Action begins at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Watkins Glen High School.
