NEW YORK STATE BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: WAVERLY'S WRIGHT HAS ANOTHER STRONG SHOWING IN CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIP (4 PHOTOS) (2019-11-16)

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — In his first two trips to the NYSPHSAA Cross Country Championships, Waverly's Collin Wright produced solid performances. However, he knew he could do better and in his third trip to states, the junior represented the Wolverines well in the Class C boys race, placing 39th out of 132 competitors.

His showing was a vast improvement over the previous two seasons. He was 55th out of 130 runners in 2017 and 57th in a field of 131 in 2018.

This year's course at SUNY Plattsburgh was relatively flat, but the ground was mostly frozen with several paved areas. At race time, the thermometer only read 15 degrees. Those factors didn't seem to faze Wright, who was pleased with his effort.

"I'm happy with where I'm at right now," he said. "I've got the best coaches, parents, supporters. My mom's one of my best influences. The coaches, they're all up here to help me through it and I was happy with how I ran it."

Wright, the program's first-ever three-time state qualifier, plans on returning to the state meet in 2020 and putting on an even better performance.

"I definitely want to move up next year at this meet, really knock places off, primarily more than time, because every course differs every year," he said.
