Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — After missing the majority of her junior season with a knee injury, Athens senior Abby Sindoni worked her way back, and led the Lady Wildcats to a District 4, Class AAA title repeat. She is the 2019 Valley Sports Report Girls Soccer “Player of the Year.”

Sayre sophomore Roz Haney is the “Offensive Player of the Year,” while Waverly senior Cora Smith and Athens senior Haley Chambers share the “Defensive Player of the Year” honors, Waverly freshman Kennedy Westbrook is the “Newcomer of the Year,” Athens senior Madisyn Joslyn is the “Goalkeeper of the Year,” and Athens’ Rich Pitts is the “Coach of the Year.”

Sindoni is a relentless performer, who utilized very good speed, and a pure desire to put the ball in the net. She scored 24 goals and dished out 13 assists.

Haney utilized her blazing speed and tremendous foot skills to rip the nets for a Valley-high 28 goals this season.

A tireless worker, who covered a lot of ground, and dogged the opposing team’s top scorers, Smith led a Waverly defense that allowed just 15 goals in 17 games, and pitched five shutouts.

A gifted athlete, Chambers directed the Athens back line, which played an integral part in the team allowing just 12 goals in 20 games, and just six over its last 18, including 14 shutouts.

Westbrook, a bundle of energy who never seems to slow down, scored 14 goals and doled out 10 assists in her first varsity season.

The starting keeper on both of Athens’ District 4 title teams the last two years, Joslyn pitched 14 shutouts this season, and allowed just 12 goals in 20 games this season.

In his four years at Athens, Pitts has taken the program to the next level. Not only has Athens continued its success in the NTL, with four more league titles under Pitts, but the Lady Wildcats have won back-to-back District 4 titles for the first time in school history.
