Valley Sports ReportCORTLAND - Junior Collin Wright broke a school-record, and junior Caden Wheeler was a double-winner here Saturday to pace the Waverly boys at the season-opening 607 Indoor Track & Field Invite at SUNY Cortland.
Wright won the 3,200-meter run in a school-record time of 10:17.52, eclipsing the mark of 10:18.91, set by Travis Elston in 2010.
Wheeler teamed with junior Jayden Rose, 8th-grader Ralph Johnson, and sophomore Nate Ackley to win the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay in a time of 4:00.16.
Wheeler also won the long jump with a leap of 21-feet, 7-inches.
Wheeler and Johnson teamed with sophomore Sam VanDyke, and freshman John Price teamed to finish second in the 800-meter relay in a time of 1:46.93.
Senior Isaac Chandler won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14-feet. He finished second in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.01 seconds.
Ackley finished second in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:03.01, and sophomore Gavin Schillmoeller was 13h in 6:12.14.
Rose finished third in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:56.57.
VanDyke finished fifth in the 300-meter dash in a time of 40.8 seconds. VanDyke and Wright finished sixth and seventh in the high jump at heights of 5-feet, and 4-feet, 10-inches, respectively.
Johnson finished sixth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.18 seconds, and Price was 13th in 8.05 seconds.
Sophomore Hunter Elston finished 14th in the shot put with a throw of 27-feet, 1-inch, and senior Brandon Bubniak was 17th at 22-feet, 10-inches.
Sophomore Matt Atanasoff finished 16th in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:54.15.
Waverly returns to action Dec. 14 at the Ithaca Bomber Invite.
