THE WEEK AHEAD: WINTER SEASON BEGINS ON BOTH SIDES OF BORDER (2019-12-02)

THE VALLEY — The winter season swings into action Tuesday as New York State teams begin play, then shifts into high gear Friday as Pa. teams join the fray.

There are 23 events on the docket this week, including eight on Friday and seven on Saturday.

The following are some, not all, of the week’s top events:

MONDAY (0)
There are no games on the schedule.

TUESDAY (4)
•  The Waverly boys hoop team open the 2019-20 campaign on the road with a non-league game at U-E.

•  The Tioga girls basketball team host divisional rival O-M to open the season.

•  The Waverly bowling teams open the season at home against Large School rival Notre Dame

•  The Tioga bowling teams open the season against Candor at the Owego Bowl.

WEDNESDAY (1)
•  The Waverly wrestlers open the season at IAC Large School rival Newark Valley.

THURSDAY (3)
•  The Waverly boys swim team opens the 2019-20 season at home against Dryden.

•  The Waverly and Tioga bowling teams both host divisional rivals at the Valley Bowling Center.

FRIDAY (8)
 •  The Waverly boys swim team hosts Valley rival Athens,

•  The Waverly wrestling team is in action at the Mark Stevens Classic at the Horseheads Middle School.

•  The Waverly girls hoop teams opens the 2019-20 season at home against divisional rival Newark Valley, while the Wolverine boys play at Newark Valley.

•  The Tioga boys hoop team opens the season at home against Candor, while the Lady Tigers play at Candor.

•  The Sayre girls basketball team opens the 2019-20 season against Blue Ridge at the Towanda Tip-Off Tournament.

•  The Sayre boys hoop team opens its campaign against Blue Ridge at the Blue Ridge Tip-Off Tournament.

SATURDAY (7)
•  Athens wrestling hosts the annual Jarvis Tournament.

•  The Tioga wrestlers will open the 2019-20 season at the Wellsville Tournament.

•  The Sayre wrestling team opens the season at the Wyalusing Duals.

•  The Waverly and Tioga bowling teams compete in the IAC Kick-Off Tournament at the Valley Bowling Center.

•  The Waverly wrestlers are back in action at Day 2 of the Mark Stevens Classic.
