WAVERLY - Freshman Zach Vanderpool won individual gold to lead the Waverly boys to the team title here Saturday afternoon at the inaugural IAC Kick-Off Tournament in boys bowling action.

Tioga, paced by sophomore Dylan Slater, finished fourth in the team standings.

The Wolverines posted a three-game total of 2,976, well ahead of runner-up Groton, which tallied ,652 pins, and third-place Lansing, which had 2,629. The Tigers tallied 2,621 pins.

Vanderpool banged out a 737 series on games of 206, 256, and 275, while fellow freshman Ashton Pritchard rolled a 633 on games of 221, 207, and 205.

Senior Derrick Canfield had a 588, including a 224 in the third game, for the Wolverines, while junior Matt Mauersberg added a 526, and junior Richard Stevens tacked on a 492.

Slater rolled a 586 series, including games of 212 in the first and third games, while sophomore Rocco Fariello shot a 562, including a 212 in the first game, and senior Kolton Pond had a 560, including a 225 in the second game.

Freshman Gage Cain added a 519 for the Tigers, and freshman Frank Chapman tacked on a 394.

Dryden's Edd Pietrasz shot a 675 to finish second in the individual standings, and Lansing's Than Calupca was third with a 661.

Tioga hosts Marathon Tuesday, while Waverly travels to Union Sptings / Port Byron on Wednesday.
