NTL SWIMMING: SAYRE COACH WILL USE LOW NUMBERS TO HER ADVANTAGE IN 2019-20 (2019-12-09)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE - Numbers are down for the Sayre swim teams, especially the boys, but second-year coach Carrie Wright believes that could benefit the swimmers on the team in 2019-20.

(Sayre opens the season today at Elk Lake.)

"Although our total numbers are down due to graduation, we anticipate to have competitive performances and have a great showing at Districts in February," said Wright.

"Low numbers is an advantage to individual performances because it allows us as coaches to really focus individually to see where our kids can be competitive within the district," added Wright.

Seniors Jillian Shay, Jordan Maxim, and Kayla Hughey return, as well as junior Tahnee Casey Coolbaugh, and sophomore Jade Fairlie

The Lady Redskins also welcome five Redskins in Hannah Green, Makenna Garrison, Ella Chilson, Elizabeth Boyle, and Adriana Barnhart.

Sophomore Ryan Maxim returns for the boys, and sophomore Trevor Campbell

The Redskins have a few swimmers to keep an eye on this year, says Wright, including one newcomer.

"Jillian Shay is a dynamic swimmer who is able to help the team in various events.

Kayla Hughey's success in cross country has her highly motivated, and I expect her to make a big statement this year in the pool," said Wright.

"Ryan Maxim continues to show amazing improvement and has proved himself in practice.

"And, Elizabeth Boyle, although only a freshmen, has proved herself in practice and I am excited to see how she fares in District 4 competition," added Wright.
