NTL JV BOYS BASKETBALL: SAYRE PULLS AWAY IN FOURTH QUARTER; BESTS TOWANDA, 39-26 (2019-12-12)

TOWANDA "” Sayre jumped out to an early lead, then pulled away in the fourth quite for a 39-26 win over Towanda here Wednesday evening in NTL junior varsity boys basketball action.

Zach Garrity knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the first quarter, and Jackson Hubbard added four points as the junior Redskins took an 11-6 lead after the first eight minutes.

The Sayre defense held Towanda to just one point in the second quarter, but Sayre only managed to extend its lead by four points to lead 16-7 at the half.

Garrity knocked down another 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter, and Kannon VanDuzer added four points, but Towanda trimmed four points off the lead, and trailed 25-20 heading into the final eight minutes.

Tavone McClenny scored six points in the third quarter, and Cody VanBenthuysen canned a 3-pointer as Sayre pulled away with a 14-6 run, despite making just of 5 of 13 free-throw attempts in the final eight minutes.

Garrity led Sayre with 13 points, while Hubbard, McClenny, and VanDuzer added six points apiece.

Sayre returns to action Friday when it hosts North Penn-Mansfield.
