IAC BOYS SWIMMING: ATANASOFF PACES WAVERLY IN 63-31 WIN OVER O-M (2019-12-12)

ODESSA - Waverly ace Mike Atanasoff was a quadruple-winner, and the trio of juniors Ryan Bennett and Collin Keefer, and sophomore Kaden Wheeler were triple-winners to lead Waverly to a 63-31 win over Odessa-Montour here Thursday afternoon in IAC boys swimming action.

The Wolverines, who lost their first event of the season in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay, won 10 of 11 events to run their record to 4-0, and their win streak to 34 meets in a row.

Atanasoff won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:56.68, and 8th-grader Liam Wright finished third in 2:16.44. He also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.67.

Bennett won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.37 seconds, and senior Brandon Clark was third in 26.37 seconds..

Bennett won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.58 seconds, and freshman Ryan Clark was second in 58.56 seconds. Senior Nick Janzen won the exhibition heat of the 100 free with a personal-best time of 1:00.98.

Keefer won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:24.68, and junior Max Pan was third in 2:49.24.

Wheeler won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.13, and junior Dillon Madigan was third in 1:09.29. Wheeler also won the 100-yard backstroke by more than 10 seconds with a time of 1:01.31.

Freshman Oscar Williams won the 500-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 5:44.54, and Ryan Clark was third at 6:14.6.

Atanasoff, Keefer, and Bennett teamed with senior Josh Lee won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:43.09. The Waverly foursome of Janzen, Brandon Clark, Pan, and Sackett finished second in a time of 1:48.63.

Waverly will host Southern Cayuga Tuesday.
