WAVERLY "” Waverly used a 19-0 first-half run to seize control en route to a 42-21 win over Watkins Glen here Thursday night in IAC South Large School junior varsity girls basketball action.

The junior Lady Senecas led 6-4, but Paige Robinson scored to tie the game at 6-6, triggering the 19-0 run over the next 7 1/2 minutes.

Robinson scored eight points in the run, Peyton Shaw scored five, and Ashlen Croft added four as the junior Lady Wolverines surged to a 23-6 lead with 2:41 remaining in the first half.

After a Watkins Glen bucket, Waverly closed the half with six straight points for a 29-8 lead at the intermission.

Watkins Glen outscored Waverly, 8-3, in the third quarter, but Waverly restored its advantage in the fourth with a 10-5 spurt.

Shaw led Waverly with 13 points, while Robinson scored 12 points, Croft had seven points. Addison Westbrook added six points, and Michaela Lauper chipped in with four points.

Waverly returns to action Wednesday at Thomas A. Edison.
