ITHACA "” Waverly senior Isaac Chandler and junior Collin Wright broke their own school records, and led the Wolverines to an eighth-place finish in the rugged 28-team field here Saturday at the Ithaca Bombers Indoor Track & Field Invitational.

Shaker High won the team title with 72 points, while Rush-Henrietta was second with 52, Corning was third with 51, Ithaca was fourth with 39, and Horseheads was fifth with 38. Waverly tallied 28 points, trailing only Corning, Ithaca, and Horseheads among Section IV competitors.

Chandler won the pole vault with a school-record indoor vault of 15-feet, breaking his own school-record of 14-feet, 6-inches, which he set last year.

Chandler also finished third in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.06 seconds, and junior Skyler Dengler was 25th in 11.28 seconds. Chandler ran the third-fastest qualifying time in the prelims at 8.19 seconds.

Wright finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run in a school-record time of 10:15.2, He broke his own record of 10:17.52, which he established two weeks ago.

Junior Caden Wheeler finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet, 2-inches

The foursome off Wright, senior Brandon Bubniak, junior Jayden Rose, and sophomore Nate Ackley finished fourth in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:02.6.

Also competing, but not placing were:

The Waverly foursome of Chandler, Wheeler, 8th-grader Ralph Johnson, and sophomore Sam VanDyke, who finished 11th in a time of 1:38.4, and the quartet of VanDyke, Ackley, Rose and Wright, who finished 11th in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:59.61.

Rose finished 12th in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:52.38, while Ackley finished 13th in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:56.43, and Wheeler finished 14th in the 300-meter dash in a time of 38.41 seconds.

Junior Alex Gadow was 15th in the weight throw with a heave of 31-feet, 9 1/2-inches, and sophomore Hunter Elston was 17th at 31-feet, 2-inches. Gadow was 18th in the shot put with a heave of 35-feet, 7-inches, and 25th in the triple jump with an effort of 37-feet.

Johnson finished 24th in the 55-meter dash in 7.02 seconds, and Bubniak was 25th in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:36.95.

Waverly returns to action Saturday in the Quinney Invitational at SUNY Cortland.
