IAC BOYS SWIMMING: WAVERLY WINS 11 OF 12 EVENTS IN ROUT OF GREENE (2019-12-19)
Valley Sports ReportGREENE, N.Y. - Waverly won 11 of 12 events, led by quad-winners senior Mike Atanasoff, junior Ryan Bennett, and sophomore Kaden Wheeler, in a 141-32 decision over Greene here Thursday afternoon in non-league boys swimming action.
Waverly, now 6-0 has won 36 consecutive regular-season meets.
Atanasoff led a sweep in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 52.39 seconds, while senior Brandon Clark was second in 59.18 seconds, and junior Max Pan was third in 1:02.64.
Atanasoff also led a sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:10.32, while Pan was second in 1:19.35, and freshman Ryan Clark was third at 1:30.81.
Bennet led a sweep in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.1, while junior Collin Keefer was second in 1:08.83, and freshman Oscar Williams was third in 1:14.91.
Bennett also won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.07 seconds
Wheeler won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:00.66, and 8th-grader Liam Wright was second in 2:16.27.
Wheeler also led a sweep in the 500-yard freestyle in a tim of 5:32.71, while Wright was second in 6:00.68, and junior Dillon Madigan was third in 6:05.3.
Atanasoff, Bennett, and Wheeler teamed with Brandon Clark to win the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:46.77.
Atanasoff, Wheeler, Bennett, and Keefer teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 3:56.57.
Williams led a sweep in the 200-yard IM with a winning time of 2:26.28, while junior Dillon Madigan was second in 2:36.64, and freshman Ryan Clark was third in 2:39.57.
Gage Streeter won 1-meter diving completion with a scored of 217.1 points, and freshman Jerell Sackett was second with 129.4 points.
Senior Josh Lee, Pan, senior Nick Janzen, and Keefer won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:05.27
Lee was second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:07.57, and Keefer was third in 1:09.67.
Waverly returns to action Dec. 28 when it hosts the Waverly Invitational.
