IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: CROFT POWERS TORRID START IN WAVERLY'S 78-20 ROMP OVER EDISON (2019-12-24)

WAVERLY "” Waverly got off to a torrid start, then got even hotter, building a 39-point halftime lead - thanks in large part to 28 first-half points from Davis Croft - en route to a 78-24 win over Thomas A. Edison here Monday evening in IAC South Large School junior varsity boys basketball action.

Croft pumped in 15 points in the first quarter, including a 3-pointer, and Brennan Traub and Liam Traub combined for a trio of 3-pointers to fuel a 26-8 Wolverine run in the first eight minutes.

Croft added 13 more points in the second quarter, including two 3-pointers and an old-fashion three-point play, Nalen Carling scored six points, and Thomas Hand had four points in a 29-8 blitz that upped the Waverly advantage to 55-16 at the half.

Brady Blauvelt scored seven points in the third quarter, and Carling added four points as Waverly extended its lead to 70-20 entering the final eight minutes.

Croft, who made 12 of 18 shots from the field, also grabbed five rebounds, including four on the offensive boards, to go along with his game-high 28 points, while Carling had 10 points and five rebounds, and Blauvelt had nine points, four assists, and three rebounds.

Brennan Traub had six points on a pair of 3-pointers, while Liam Traub scored five points, Jay Pipher had four points and two assists,  Hand had four points, three rebounds, and two steals, Nate DeLill had four points and five rebounds, and Liam Murphy grabbed five rebounds.

Waverly, now 4-1, returns to action Friday at 2 p.m. at Towanda in the opening round of the Valley JV Christmas Tournament.
