SECTION IV INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: WHEELER PACES WAVERLY'S EFFORTS AT WINTER CLASSIC (24 PHOTOS) (2019-12-29)
Valley Sports ReportCORTLAND - Junior Caden Wheeler had three top-three finishes to pace Waverly's efforts here Saturday at the Winter Indoor Track & Field Invitational at SUNY Cortland.
Wheeler finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20-feet, 4-inches, well off the winning effort of Athens junior Benny Gambrell, who reached 21-feet, 7 1/2-inches.
Wheeler also finished third in the 55-meter dash in 6.94 seconds.
Wheeler, teamed with 8th-grader Ralph Johnson, junior Jayden Rose, and sophomore Sam VanDyke to finish third in the sprint medley relay in a time of 4:00.96.
Junior Collin Wright finished third in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:52.38, and Rose was fifth in 5:12.95.
The foursome Wright, senior Brandon Bubniak, junior Alex Gadow, and sophomore Nate Ackley finished fourth in the distance medley relay in a time of 11:54.15.
Ackley finished fifth in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:52.93, while Johnson was sixth in the 300-meter dash in a time of 39.93 seconds.
Gadow finished sixth in the triple jump with an effort of 35-feet, 8 1/2-inches, and junior Skyler Dengler was 12th in 29-feet, 11-inches. Dangler finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.66 seconds
Bubniak finished ninth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:38.66, and VanDyke was 11th in the high jump with a height of 5-feet.
Waverly returns to action Saturday at the Section IV Invitational at Cornell University.
