CORTLAND - The Waverly girls are re-writing the indoor track & field record book in 2019-20.

The chief culprit has been senior Sheridan Talada, who established new records in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs in Waverly's first three meets.

On Saturday here at the Winter Classic, Talada teamed with fellow seniors Melina Ortiz, Cora Smith, and Elizabeth Fritzen, to win the distance medley relay in a school-record time 13:00.29, breaking the record of 13:19.3 set in 2000 by Jessica Hughes, Sarah Moore, Beth Barber, Kati Hughes.

Ortiz picked up the Lady Wolverines' only individual win, clocking in at 7.61 seconds for first place in the 55-meter dash.

Senior Melina Ortiz won the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.61 seconds. She also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 5-inches.

Smith finished second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:12.44.

Senior Alyssa Simonetti was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.03 seconds.

Senior Marissa Eisenhower finished sixth in the shot put with a heave of 29-feet, 9 1/2-inches, and sophomore Taylor Hall was 16th at 22-feet, 9 1/2-inches.

Senior Paige Ackley finished eighth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:54.0, and 8th-grader Elizabeth Vaughn was 15th in 2:08.35.

Sophomore Emily Tully finished 12th in the high jump with a height of 3-feet, 8-inches.

Waverly returns to action Saturday at the Section IV Invitational at Cornell University.
