Valley Sports ReportSAYRE "" Athens jumped out to an early lead and won a 17-6 decision over Sayre here Thursday evening in NTL junior varsity girls basketball action.
Due to Sayre's small roster, the game was played in five-minute quarters, instead of the normal eight minutes.
Hannah Blackman scored three points in the first quarter, and Karlee Bartlow and Natalie Watson each scored one bucket to help Athens to a 7-0 lead after the first five minutes.
After a scoreless second quarter, Olivia Bartlow scored four points in the third quarter as Athens extended its lead to 13-4
Olivia Bartlow led Athens with six points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots, while Karlee Bartlow added four points, three steals, and two assists, Blackman had four rebounds and two blocked shots, and Natalie Watson grabbed five rebounds.
Aliyah Rawlings, Hayli VanDyke, and Madi Lamanna each scored two points for the Lady Redskins.
