LERAYSVILLE — Northeast Bradford got off to a quick start, and held Athens at baty in the second half in a 58-47 win here Friday night in NTL boys basketball action.
The Panthers jumped out to a 16-8 lead after the first eight minutes, thanks to six points by Lucas Crawn and a conventional three-point play by Clayton Connor, then extended its advantage to 28-17 at the half.
NEB continued to add to its lead in the third quarter with an 18-13 spurt, fueled by nine points by Crawn, to take a 46-30 lead into the final eight minutes.
The Wildcats cut the lead under double-figures in the fourth quarter thanks to eight points from senior Aaron Lane, including a pair of old-fashioned three-point plays, a 3-pointer by freshman Mason Lister, and a three-point play by senior Damian Hudson, but the Panthers, despite making just 6 of 13 free-throw attempts in the final stanza, sealed the victory at the charity stripe down the stretch.
Lane led Athens with 24 points and five rebounds, while Lister had nine points and eight rebounds, sophomore Troy Pritchard hauled down seven rebounds, and sophomore Tucker Brown had four boards.
Crawn led NEB with 21 points.
