IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: SOUTHERN CAYUGA ROLLS OVER TIOGA, 66-35 (2020-01-10)
Valley Sports ReportPOPLAR RIDGE, N.Y. - Southern Cayuga rolled out to an early lead, and was never challenged in a 66-35 win over Tioga here Friday night in IAC Small School boys basketball action.
Jared Howe drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the first quarter to stake the Chiefs to a 21-10 lead after the first eight minutes.
Nick Thurston scored seven points in the second quarter, and Nate Thurston and Jackson Otis scored five apiece (all three made one 3-pointer) as the Chiefs used a 19-8 run to up their lead to 40-18 at the half.
Senior Sam Taylor scored 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the first half for Tioga, but no one else scored more than three points.
The Chiefs outscored Tioga, 17-7, in the third quarter to take a 57-25 lead into the final eight minutes.
Taylor led Tioga with 12 points, while senior Thomas Cook added six points, and senior Caleb Allen chipped in with four points.
Otis led Southern Cayuga with 15 points, and Howe added 14.
Tioga, now 0-7, hosts Delhi Saturday afternoon. The JV game tips off at 2 p.m.
