IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: ROSSI, WOOD PROPEL TIOGA TO 54-47 WIN OVER SOUTHERN CAYUGA (2020-01-10)

"" Senior Giovanna Rossi, who posted a monster double-double, and junior Eve Wood combined for 40 points as Tioga used a big second half to snap a three-game losing streak with a 54-47 win over Southern Cayuga here Friday night in IAC Small School girls basketball action.
Rossi scored four points in the first quarter, and Wood knocked down a 3-pointer, but the Lady Chiefs led 8-7 after the first eight minutes.
Rossi scored six more points in the second quarter, and Wood added five points, including her second 3-pointer. The game was tied at 20-20 at the halftime intermission.
Rossi scored six points in the third quarter, while senior Chloe Bellis added four points, and Wood and junior Olivia Ayres connected on 3-pointers, and Tioga took a 36-34 lead into the final eight minutes.
Tioga won the game at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, making 15 of 20 free-throw attempts to secure the victory.
Rossi made 7 of 10 in the stanza, while Chloe Bellis made 5 of 6, and Wood knocked down 3 of 4. Wood had Tioga's only field goal in the final eight minutes "" her fourth 3-pointer of the game.
Rossi led the Lady Tigers with 23 points and 18 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, and one blocked shot, while Wood had 17 points, five rebounds, and six steals, and Chloe Bellis added nine points and five boards.
Ayres added four rebounds, four steals, three assists, and one blocked shot in the win, and sophomore Julia Bellis had eight boards and four steals.
Lilly Colton led Southern Cayuga with 13 points, while Kaley Driscoll added 10, and Avery Colton chipped in with eight.
Tioga, now 5-6, travels to Notre Dame Tuesday for its sixth consecutive road game.
