MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: WAVERLY GRAD WARD COMING ON STRONG AT MANSFIELD (2020-01-13)

MANSFIELD "” Waverly grad Jon Ward, a junior on the Mansfield University men's basketball team, had a season-high 11 rebounds and six blocked shots in the Mounties, 79-71, loss to nationally-ranked West Chester University here Saturday.

Ward was 0-for-2 from the field, but was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line for six points. He also had three steals and two assists in a season-high 29 minutes of action against the 8th-ranked Div. II team in the country.

On Wednesday, Ward had eight points on 3 of 6 shooting from the field, two rebounds, and two blocked shots in a 79-59 loss at Lock Haven.

HIs season-high in points was nine, on 4 of 5 shooting, on Jan. 3 in a 81-75 win over Bloomsburg. He also had eight rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.

In four games since the end of Christmas break, Ward has averaged 6.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals in an average of 19 minutes per game.

Prior to the break, Ward, who played in just 4 of Mansfield's 10 games, averaged 3.3 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.5 blocks, and 0.3 steals in 9.5 minutes per game.

Mansfield, now 4-10 and 1-3 since the break, returns to action Wednesday at Kutztown University.
