ITHACA "”After five runner-up finishes, Waverly brought home its first Division 2 Indoor Track & Field  Class Championship in program history here Friday at Ithaca College.

Waverly tallied 85 points in the first-place effort, while runner-up Lansing had 79 points, third-place Trumansburg had 76 points, fourth-place Bainbridge-Guilford had 46 points, and fifth-place Notre Dame had 39 points.

Seniors Melina Ortiz, Sheridan Talada, Elizabeth Fritzen, Cora Smith, and Paige Ackley were instrumental in securing the team title.

Fritzen, Smith, Ackley, and Talada teamed to register the Lady Wolverines' only first-place finish of the day, winning the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 10:28.83 - nearly 7 seconds faster than runner-up Elmira.
 
Talada finished second in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:47.04, and Smith was fourth in 10:49.83. Talada finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:05.26, and Smith was eighth in 5:09.29.

Ortiz finished third in the 300-meter dash in a time of 43.83 seconds, and was fourth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.68 seconds. Ortiz also finished fifth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:44.1, and 8th-grader Elizabeth Vaughn was 24th in 2:02.86.

Fritzen finished fifth in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:16.11, and Ackley was eighth in 3:19.37.

Senior Alyssa Simonetti finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.69 seconds, and sophomore Emily Tully was 28th in 12.49 seconds.

Senior Zoe Lunduski finished eighth in the 1,500-meter race walk in a time of 10:20.81, and senior Rachel Ovedovitz was 10th in 10:30.89.

Senior Marissa Eisenhower finished ninth in the shot put with a heave of 29-feet, 1 1/2-inches, and sophomore Taylor Hall was 32nd at 22-feet, 10-inches. Eisenhower was 12th in the weight throw with a toss of 28-feet, 3 1/2-inches, and Hall was 21st at 21-feet, 11-inches.

Tully finished 18th in the high jump at 3-feet, 9-inches.
