ATHENS "” Junior Kayleigh Miller and senior Haley Barry helped Athens to a double-digit halftime lead en route to a 41-19 win over Thomas A. Edison in non-league girls basketball action.

Miller canned a pair of 3-pointers, and scored eight points in the first quarter as Athens built a 10-5 lead after the first eight minutes.

Barry scored seven points, including an old-fashioned three-point play, in the second quarter, while Miller and junior Megan Collins each knocked down 3-pointers in a 17-9 run that gave the Lady Wildcats a 27-14 lead at the half.

Sophomore Caydence Macik scored four points in the third quarter, and Barry added another three-point play, while the Lady Wildcat defense held Edison to a single free throw in an 8-1 spurt that extended the lead to 32-15 entering the final eight minutes.

Barry led Athens with 12 points and three rebounds, while Miller had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, five steals, and four rebounds, and Macik added eight points, seven steals, six rebounds, and one blocked shot.

Junior Rachel Stephens grabbed six rebounds in the win, while junior Kassidy Peterson had five boards, senior Avery Priester dished out three assists, and Joselyn Murray chipped in with three boards.

Lexi Moore and Maren Lutz led Edison with six points apiece.

Athens, now 11-2, returns to action Wednesday at Troy.
