NTL WRESTLING: WYALUSING HOLDS ON FOR 40-37 WIN OVER ATHENS (2020-01-21)

WYALUSING "” Wyalusing opened the match with five consecutive falls to take a 30-0 lead, then held on for a 40-37 win over Athens here Tuesday night in NTL wrestling action.
After pins by Dawson Keeney, Nicholas Woodruff, Skyler Manahan, Colbrin Nolan, and Logan Newton from 126 pounds through 152 pounds, respectively, gave the Rams a 30-0 lead, freshman Riley Hall put the Wildcats on the board with a first-period pin of Brian Arnold at 160 pounds.
Alex Hunsinger won a 12-4 major decision over Colin Rosh at 170 pounds to put the Rams up 34-6, but they would only win one more weight class the remainder of he night.
Senior Alex West won via scone-period fall over Zach Shaffer at 182 pounds, and junior Ben Pernaselli picked up a forfeit at 195 to cut the Wildcat deficit to 34-18.
Wyalusing standout Jackson Chilson received a forfeit at 220 pounds to make it 40-18, but senior Keegan Braund quickly returned the momentum to the Wildcats with a 13-second fall at 285 pounds to trim the Wyalusing advantage to 40-24.
Junior Kyler Setzer forged a 12-0 major decision over Alexander Boyd at 106 pounds, twice turning Boyd for three near-fall points in the second period, to cut the Wyalusing lead to 40-28.
Athens sophomore Gavin Bradley received a forfeit at 113 pounds to pull the Wildcats within six points, at 40-34.
Sophomore Kaden Setzer twice picked up two near-fall points in the second period, but Hunter Manahan avoided the fall. Kaden Setzer won a 10-6 decision to provide the final margin.
Athens returns to action Saturday at the Bedford Tournament.
