WHITNEY POINT "” Waverly scored the first 10 points of the game, and cruised to a 79-32 win over Whitney Point here Friday night in IAC Large School Division girls basketball action.

Freshman Kennedy Westbrook knocked down a 3-pointer about 20 seconds into the game, and senior Sidney Tomasso scored six points in a two-minute span to give the Lady Wolverines a 10-0 lead with 5:28 remaining in the first quarter.

After a pair of free throws put Whitney Point on the board with 3:44 left in the first quarter, Tomasso canned a 3-pointer to give Waverly a 13-2 lead.

Waverly stretched its lead to 20-6 after the first eight minutes.

Senior Gianna Picco, junior Alyssa Sindoni and sophomore Olivia NIttinger scored four points apiece in the second quarter, and the Lady Wolverines added one point to its lead, taking a 36-21 advantage into the halftime locker room.

Waverly put the game away in the third quarter with a 24-5 blitz that extended its lead to 60-27 heading into the final eight minutes. Westbrook canned a trio of 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the stanza, while Tomasso added four points, and Nittinger knocked down her second 3-pointer of the game.

The Lady Wolverines went to their bench again in the fourth quarter, with Nittinger scoring eight points, and sophomore Lourden Benjamin adding four in a game-closing 19-5 run.

Tomasso led Waverly with 19 points, while Nittinger scored a career-high 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, Westbrook added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Sindoni had seven points.

Benjamin and Picco scored six points apiece in the win, and senior Morgan Adams chipped in with four points.

Emma Morgan led Whitney Point with 10 points.

Waverly, now 10-2, travels to division-leading Newark Valley Tuesday.
