THE VALLEY "” Seven basketball games - four boys and three girls - highlight a busy Tuesday night that also features wrestling, boys swimming, and bowling.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Newark Valley (2-9 overall, 1-7 IAC South Large) at Waverly (11-2, 7-1), 5:30 p.m. JV start:
The first-place Wolverines are coming off a 53-48 win over Watkins Glen Saturday, while the Cardinals dropped a 59-52 decision to Trumansburg Friday.

In their first meeting, Waverly rolled to a 76-58 win over Newark Valley.

Candor (7-6, 5-3 IAC South Small) at Tioga (2-11, 0-7), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Tigers are coming off a 51-42 win over Thomas A. Edison Monday, while the Indians topped Union Springs, 56-51, Friday.

Earlier this season, Candor rolled to a 66-35 win over Tioga.

Athens (11-3, 9-2 NTL Large) at Wellsboro (10-8, 7-5), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wildcats are coming off a 63-38 win over Towanda Friday, while the Green Hornets dropped a 55-53 heartbreaker to Wyalusing.

Athens and Wyalusing are tied atop the Large School standings, with Troy 1 game behind, and Wellsboro 3 games back.

In their first meeting, Athens won at home, 71-51, kick-starting their current five-game winning streak.

Cowanesque Valley (5-11, 2-9 NTL Small) at Sayre (7-8, 4-7), 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins are coming off a 77-69 win over Williamson Saturday, while the Indians dropped a 70-52 decision at Canton.

Earlier this season, Sayre won at CV, 57-55.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Waverly (10-2) at Newark Valley (14-0), 5:30 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Wolverines are coming off a 79-32 rout of Whitney Point Friday, while the Lady Cardinals steamrolled Vestal, 64-37, in a non-league tilt.

In their first meeting, state-ranked Newark Valley topped Waverly, 58-46.

Tioga (6-8) at Candor (4-9), 5:30 p.m. JV start: The Lady Tigers are coming off a 60-52 win over Groton, while the Lady Indians dropped a 52-40 decision to Union Springs.

In heir first meeting, Tioga topped Candor, 52-39.

Wyalusing (7-9, 7-3 NTL Large) at Athens (13-3, 10-1), 6 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 49-38 win over Wellsboro, while the Lady Rams thumped Williamson, 56-9.

Athens is tied atop the Large School standings with Towanda. Wyalusing trails by 2 games.

WRESTLING
Waverly (10-9) at Corning (3-8), 6 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a 42-37 loss at SVEC Wednesday, while the Hawks are coming of a 64-12 loss to Chenango Forks in the semifinals of the Section IV, Division 1 Duals Saturday.

Corning's top records belong to sophomore state-ranked Drew Withal (31-3 at 132), Ethan Hart (26-3 at 145), state-ranked Chase Daudelin (9-1 at 126), who missed the first month of the season, freshman Walker Riley (24-10 at 106), sophomore Charles Loucks (15-6 at 138), sophomore Camden McConnell (20-11 at 195), and senior Damien VanEtten (16-8 at 182).

Waverly's top records belong to senior Ethan Stotler (33-1 at 160), freshman Gage Tedesco (22-6 at 182), junior Trevor Meyers (27-9 at 170), and sophomore Garrett Skeens (24-10 at 132).

BOYS SWIMMING
Waverly (10-0) at Southern Cayuga (8-1), 4:30 p.m.:
The Wolverines are on the verge of their third consecutive IAC regular-season championship. They have won 40 consecutive meets.

In their first meeting, seniors Mike Atanasoff and Gage Streeter broke school records to lead Waverly to a 114-56 win over the previously-unbeaten Chiefs.

BOYS BOWLING
Notre Dame (9-23) at Waverly (26-10), 3:30 p.m.:
The Wolverines are coming off a sweep of Newark Valley that propelled them into first place, ahead of Newark Valley and Union Springs / Port Byron by 1 point.

Waverly averages 924 pins per game, while Notre Dame averages 726.

Freshman Zach Vanderpool leads the IAC in average at 217, while senior Derrick Canfield is third at 199, and junior Matt Mauersberg is 12th at 182.

Candor (23-9) at Tioga (31-1), 3:30 p.m.: The Tigers lead the Small School Division by 6 1/2 points over Groton, and eight points over Candor with just two matches (eight points) remaining. They can clinch the division with two points against Candor.

Tioga averages 848 pins per game, and Candor averages 734.

Senior Kolton Pond is eighth in the IAC with a 190 average, while sophomore Rocco Frill is 10th at 183, and sophomore Dylan Slater is 11th at 182.

GIRLS BOWLING
Notre Dame (19-13) at Waverly (29-7), 3:30 p.m.:
The Lady Wolverines are second in the Large School Division. They trail Union Springs / Port Byron by 6 points with two matches (eight points) remaining.

Waverly averages 742 pins per game, while Notre Dame averages 616.

Eighth-grader Rachel Houseknecht leads the IAC with a 178.4 average, while her sister, freshman Victoria Houseknecht is second at 177.6, and freshman Shantilly Decker is 11th at 150.

Candor (28-4) at Tioga (10-22), 3:30 p.m.:
Candor leads the Small School Division by 3 points over Groton with two matches (eight points) remaining.

Candor averages 662 pins per game, while Tioga averages 582.
