IAC BOYS BOWLING: CANFIELD LEADS FIRST-PLACE WAVERLY TO SWEEP OF LANSING (2020-01-30)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY "” Senior Derrick Canfield rolled his first 700 series of the season, and two of his teammates - freshman Zach Vanderpool and junior Matt Mauersberg - threw big 600 series to lead Waverly to a sweep of Lansing here Thursday in IAC boys bowling action.
The Wolverines saw their lead in the Large School Division increase to 2 points over Newark Valley, which beat Watkins Glen, 3-1, Thursday. Waverly travels to Watkins Glen Tuesday in the final match of the season.
Waverly won the first game 1,032-924, and the second game 1,001-950, before finishing off the sweep with a 1,060-945 win for a total-pinfall victory of 3,093 to 2,819.
Canfield banged out a 704 series on games of 225, 234, and 245, while Vanderpool fired a 680 series on games of 246, 200, and 234, and Mauersberg shot a 653 on games of 215, 184, and 254.
Freshman Ashton Pritchard rolled a 544 for the Wolverines, while sophomore Cody Blackwell had a 512, and 8th-grader Ethan Roberts added a 438.
Junior Richard Stevens had a 502 in reserve for Waverly.
Ethan Calupca led Lansing with a 658 series on games of 226, 203, and 229, while Hunter Hamilton shot a 590, including a 236 in the first game, and Parker Ouellette added a 570.
