IAC BOYS BOWLING: WAVERLY WINS LARGE SCHOOL TITLE WITH SWEEP OF WATKINS GLEN (2020-02-04)
Valley Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN "” Senior Derrick Canfield banged out the only 600 series of the match to lead Waverly to a sweep of Watkins Glen here Tuesday afternoon that clinched the IAC Large School Division title at Harborside Lanes.
The Wolverines led Newark Valley by 2 games entering Tuesday's action, and clinched the division title with wins of 876-819, 952-825, and 856-855. They added a total-pinfall point with a win of 2,694 to 2,499.
Canfield shot a 615 series on games of 211, 223, and 181, while freshman Zach Vanderpool rolled a 565 series, including a 225 in the first game, and junior Matt Mauersberg had a 507.
Freshman Ashton Pritchard had a 492 series for Waverly, while freshman Ethan Roberts added a 473 series, and sophomore Cody Blackwell tacked on a 443.
Matt Irwin led Watkins Glen with a 580 series, and Robert Bannon added a 519.
Waverly finishes the regular season with a 38-10 record, and will return to action Saturday at the IAC Championships at the Valley Bowling Center. Start time is 1 p.m.
