ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Waverly rolled out to a big lead early, and cruised to an 85-35 rout of Thomas A. Edison here Saturday afternoon in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.
Brennan Traub scored 10 points in the first quarter, while Nalen Carling added eight points, Davis Croft had five points, including a 3-pointer, and Liam Traub canned a 3-pointer to fuel a 26-8 Waverly blitz in the opening eight minutes.
Kayleb Bechy canned a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, and Landon McCarty drained a 3-pointer in a 20-7 run that put the junior Wolverines ahead 46-15 at the half.
Waverly had nine different players score in the second half, led by six apiece from Isaiah Bretz, Jay Pipher, and Declan Murphy, and outscored Edison, 39-20.
Eleven of Waverly’s 12 players scored in the contest, with 10 of the 11 scoring at least five points.Carling led Waverly with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Brennan Traub had 12 points, four rebounds, and four steals, Bechy scored 11 points, and Pipher had eight points and three rebounds.
McCarty scored eight points in the win, while Liam Traub had seven points and five assists, Croft had seven points, five assists, and three boards, Murphy had six points and three rebounds, Bretz had six points and four boards. Tyler Talada added five points and three rebounds, and Thomas Hand chipped in with three steals and three assists.
Waverly, now 16-1, hosts Troy Monday night.
