IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY HOLDS OFF TIOGA, 57-53 (2020-02-10)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER "" Newark Valley held off a second-half rally to post a 57-53 win over Tioga here Saturday afternoon in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.
Keon Staples scored all 10 of Tioga's points in the first quarter to help the junior Tigers to a 10-9 lead after r the first eight minutes.
Newark Valley put together an 18-9 run in the second quarter to take a 27-19 lead into the halftime locker room.
Tioga's Bryce Bailey had the hot hand in the third quarter with four 3-pointers, and Josh Reis added six points as the Tigers outscored NV, 20-13, to trim the deficit to 40-39 heading into the final eight minutes.
Ethan Landmesser scored six points in the fourth quarter, Staples added four points, and Bailey canned his fifth 3-pointer, but the Cardinals made seven free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
Staples pumped in 22 points to lead Tioga, while Bailey scored 16 points, including five 3-pointers, and Reis and Landmesser added six points apiece.
Tioga, now 8-9, travels to S-VE tonight.
