NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH 43-26 WIN OVER TROY (2020-02-10)
Valley Sports ReportATHENS "" Senior Haley Barry had a career night to lead a 43-26 win over Troy here Monday night in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.
Towanda clinched the division title with a win over Wyalusing Monday night, which means runner-up Athens will travel to Small School champion Northeast Bradford Thursday night for the opening round of the NTL Showdown.
Barry scored all eight of the Lady Wildcats points in the first quarter to lead them to an 8-2 lead.
Barry added six points in the second quarter, and junior Kayleigh Miller, who converted an old-fashioned three-point play, scored five points as Athens upped its lead to 22-12 at the half.
Barry pumped in nine points, including a 3-pointer, and junior Rachel Stephens added four points to fuel a 17-8 run that gave the Lady Wildcats a 39-20 lead heading into the finale eight minutes.
Barry led Athens with a career-high 25 points and three rebounds, while Miller had seven points, four assists, two steals, and one blocked shot, and Stephens added five points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Sophomore Caydence Macik chipped in with four points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots in the win, while senior Kassidy Peterson grabbed four boards, and senior Avery Priester chipped in with two assists and two steals.
Sydney Taylor led Troy with nine points, and Makenna Matthews added seven.
Athens wraps up the regular season at 18-4.
