SECTION IV WRESTLING: TIOGA HAS FIVE TOPS SEEDS, WAVERLY ONE AT SATURDAY'S DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONSHIPS (2020-02-11)
Valley Sports ReportB'HAMTON "" Tioga will have 13 grapplers in action Saturday, including five top seeds, at the Section IV, Division 2 Championships here at the Veterans Memorial Arena, while Waverly will have seven vying for a trip to States, including one top seed.
Defending state champion Brady Worthing is the top seed at 138 pounds for the Tigers, while 8th-graders Gianni Silvestri and Caden Bellis are the top seeds at 99 and 106 pounds, respectively, freshman Donovan Smith is the top seed at 120 pounds, and sophomore Emmett Wood is the top seed at 152 pounds.
Tioga also has a pair of second seeds in sophomore Mason Welch at 120 pounds, and senior David MacWhinnie at 132 pounds.
Waverly standout Ethan Stotler is the top seed at 160 pounds, and sophomore Garrett Skeens is the third seed at 138 pounds.
Action beings Saturday at 10 a.m.
The following are Tioga's and Waverly's competitors in each weight class, as well as the top four seeds:
99 pounds: Silvestri (33-1), the top-ranked 99-pounder in New York State, is the top seed, and will wrestle the winner of opening-round match between eighth-seed Wyatt Stouffer of SVEC and ninth-seed Kyle Mead of Deposit-Hancock in the quarterfinals.
BGAH's Darren Florance, ranked 14th in the state, is the second seed, while Norwich's Max Morris is the third seed, and Unatego-Unadilla Valley's Wyatt Meade is the fourth seed.
106 pounds: Bellis (33-2), ranked fifth in the state, is the top seed, and will wrestle the winner of the opening-round match between eighth-seeded Noah Taylor of Windsor and ninth-seed Henry Barnes of Unatego-Unadilla Valley in the quarterfinals.
BGAH's Joey Florance, ranked sixth in the State, is the second seed, while Owego's Matt Laubach and Greene-Oxford's Owen Marcin are seeded third and fourth, respectively.
Waverly freshman Connor Stotler (20-19) is the seventh seed and will square off with 10th-seed Darren Dietrich of Susquehanna Valley in the opening round. The winner will face Florance in the quarterfinals.
113 pounds: Tioga freshman Emily Sindoni (21-13) is the ninth seed and will square off with eighth-seed Dominic Napoli of Chenango Valley in the opening round. The winner will face defending state champion and top-seeded Dante Geislinger of Norwich in the quarterfinals.
Kaad'n Wakefield of Greene-Oxford is the second seed, while BGAH's Jose Bivar is the third seed, and Walton-Delhi's Noah Sovocool is the fourth seed.
120 pounds: Smith (35-2), ranked ninth in the State, is the top seed, and Mason Welch (29-8) is the second seed.
Smith will face winner of the match between eighth-seed Tyler Hasbrouck of Oneonta and ninth-seed Keegan Bacon of Sidney in the quarterfinals, while Mason Welch will face the winner of the match between seventh-seed Isaac Allen of Gorton and 10th-seed Hunter Couse of Deposit-Hancock.
Norwich's Andrew Brown, ranked 14th in the state, is the third seed, and Lansing's Owen Emmick is the fourth seed.
126 pounds: Tioga senior Jacob Welch (23-5) is the fifth seed and will square off with fourth-seed Payton Bennett of Maine-Endwell in the quarterfinals, while Waverly senior Rylan Laforest (17-19) is the sixth seed and will face third-seed Ryan Kennedy of Windsor, who is ranked 15th in the state.
Groton's Kyle Willard, ranked 10th in the state, is the top seed, and Walton-Delhi's Cody Merwin, ranked 11th, is the second seed.
132 pounds: MacWhinnie (26-5) is the second seed and will square off with the winner of the match between seventh-seed Adrian Karwowski of Sidney and Corey Jewett of Maine-Endwell in the quarterfinals.
Newark Valley's Josh Post, ranked seventh in the state, is the top seed, while Greene-Oxford's Brady Smith, ranked 13th in the state, is the third seed, and SVEC's Osumane Duncanson, ranked 10th, is the fourth seed. Dryden's Sam Dow, ranked 12th, is the fifth seed.
138 pounds: Worthing (39-0) is the top seed, and will face the winner of the match between eighth-seed Jeter Neff of Groton and ninth-seed Peyton Tweedle of Walton-Delhi in the quarterfinals.

BGAH's Brody Oleksak, ranked second in the state, is the top seed, while Dryden's Bobby Brotherton, ranked 11th in the state at 138 pounds, is the second seed, and Windsor's Dylan Wilmot is the third seed.
152 pounds: Wood (33-6), ranked third in the state, is the top seed, and will face the winner of the opening-round match between eighth-seed Waverly junior Austin Kimble (21-14) and ninth-seed Anthony Rotunda of Groton in the quarterfinals.
Dryden's Matt McKewin-Bates, ranked seventh in the state at 145 pounds, is the second seed, while Chenango Valley's Colsten Volpe is the third seed, and BGAH's Brady Battice is the fourth seed.

285 pounds: Tioga junior Cole Williams (5-15) is the 10th seed, and will square off with seventh-seed Garrett Bidwell of Windsor in the opening round. The winner will face second-seed Timmy James of BGAH in the quarterfinals.
Top-ranked Tyler Rice of Norwich is the top seed, while Deposit-Hancock's Evan Kanyon is the third seed, and Oneonta's Jeremiah Morris is the fourth seed.
