NTL BOYS SWIMMING: DEPTH CARRIES ATHENS TO TEAM TITLE AT LEAGUE MEET (11 PHOTOS) (2020-02-12)
Valley Sports ReportTOWANDA "" Athens only won three events, but used superior depth to win the team title here Wednesday afternoon at the NTL Boys Swimming & Diving Championships.
Athens claimed the top spot with 340 points, while runner-up Towanda had 287 points, third-place Wellsboro had 53 points, and fourth-place North Penn-Mansfield had 28 points.
Athens sophomore Kaden Gorsline won the 1-meter diving competition with 214.75 points, and junior James Benninger-Jones was fourth with 144.45 points.
Junior Zac Gowin won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:00.39, and freshman Ethan Denlinger was second in 6:03.41.
Freshman Chris DeForest, juniors Mason Henderson and Joe Toscano, and senior Nate Gorsline teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:42.61.
DeForest finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.72 seconds, and Nate Gorsline was third in 25.74 seconds.
DeForest also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.47 seconds, while Joe Toscano was third in 59.3 seconds, and Nate Gorsline was fourth in 59.43 seconds.
Kaden Gorsline was second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:10.1, and Joe Toscano was third in 1:19.78.
Senior T.J. Toscano finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:18.7, and freshman Travis Webster was fourth in 1:27.17.
Denlinger was third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:12.78, and Gowin was fourth in 2:13.76.
Henderson was third in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:30.56, and Webster was fourth in 2:56.5. Henderson was also third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.11.
