WAVERLY "” Freshman Victoria Houseknecht was less than 50 pins away from a berth at States here Saturday at the Section IV State Qualifier at the Valley Bowling Center.

Houseknecht finished 13th in the field of 55 bowlers, rolling a nine-game set of 1,757, while 8th-grader Rachel Houseknecht was 37th with a 1,587.

Victoria Houseknecht rolled a 564 series at the Class C Championships last weekend at Midway Lanes in Vestal that carried over to the State Qualifier. On Saturday, she rolled series of 612, which included a 253, and 585.

Rachel Houseknecht, who had a 530 last weekend, rolled series of 484 and 573 on Saturday.

Union-Endicott won the Division 1 team title, topping Elmira by 85 pints, while Maine-Endwell will represent Division 2 at the state tournament after topping runner-up Hancock by 99 pins.

Susquehanna Valley's Lyndsie Jicha won individual gold at the State Qualifier with a nine-game set of 2,062, while Hancock's Breanna Gleim won silver with a 2,015, and U-E's Ashley Cicciareli won the bronze medal with a 1,985.

Jicha and Gleim will be joined on the Section IV all-star team by Lindsay VanAlstyne of Horseheads, Erin Howard of Greene, Alex Hutchings of Elmira, and Melissa Sturdevant of Corning.

The New York State Championships will be held at Strike 'N Spare Lanes in Syracuse March 13-15.
