YOUTH WRESTLING: BARTON GIRL WINS NY-USAW STATE TITLE (2020-03-09)

JOHNSON CITY — Sophia Young of Barton captured first-place honors at the New York-USA Wrestling State Championships held at Johnson City High School here Sunday.

Wrestling for the Tioga Lady Tigers, she went 2-0 in a best-of-three format in the 10U-pound division.

Young dominated the first bout, 7-0. In the second match, she scored a takedown with 30 seconds remaining, then rode Shear out for a 2-0 victory.

Young will be among several Tioga Lady Tigers competing in the 2020 NYWAY State Championships at Brockport this weekend.
