Valley Sports ReportSAYRE "” Sayre senior Emily Sutryk earned first-team NTL Small School Division all-star honors for the second straight year, and junior Gabbi Randall was a second-team selection in recent voting by the league's coaches.
FIRST TEAM
Emily Sutryk, senior, Sayre: A strong all-around player, Sutryk averaged 13,3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals, and 1.5 assists per game. She also made 31 3-pointers.
"Emily literally "˜took one for the team' this past season, playing out of her natural position for 17 of 21 games," said Sayre coach Eileen Sparduti. "And she did it with poise and total unselfishness - without one whimper or complaint.
"All she did was give 110% every time we took the court, and then asked what more she could do.
"The best testimony to her threat as a scorer was how opponents designed a game play to stop her," added Sparduti.
Sutryk has committed to play at Elmira College next year.
Also receiving first-team honors were Canton's Elle Binford, Cowanesque Valley's Makayla Vargeson, NEB's Lauryn Jones, North Penn-Mansfield's Jaime Palmer, and North Penn-Liberty's Eva Rice.
SECOND TEAM
Gabi Randall, junior, Sayre: Long and athletic, Randall averaged 8.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2,8 steals, and 1.7 assists per game.
"Gabbi was our leading rebounder on the season (215 rebounds)," said Sparduti. "She stands in a good position to hit the 500 career mark early next season.
"She had six double-doubles and one triple-double in a 21-game season," noted Sparduti.
"Gabbi was also our defensive specialist – often assigned the task of defending the opponent's leading scorer," added Sparduti. "She is a versatile athlete who could perform a variety of roles. Her senior year could bring her many more accolades."
Also receiving second-team honors wee North Penn-Mansfield's Elizabeth Welch, Canton's Molly Ward, NEB's Victoria Rought, and Cowanesque Valley's Kailey Wells and Abby Ackley.
