NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: SAYRE'S BROWN, LANE EARN ALL-STAR HONORS (2020-04-28)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE "” Sayre senior Corbin Brown earned first-team NTL Small School Division all-star recognition, while junior Matt Lane was named to the second team in recent voting by the league's coaches.

FIRST TEAM
Corbin Brown, senior, Sayre:
Long and athletic, Brown excelled when attacking the bucket, and did a nice job on the boards this season, especially on the offensive glass.

He averaged 10.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, including 3.3 offensive boards, and 1.9 assists per game. He shot 46 percent from the field.

"Senior year is your last year to play high school sports so you want to make the best of it. Corbin did that with his play throughout the season and it helped our team advance as far as we did," said Sayre coach Devin Shaw.

"Some of his biggest games were at the end in the district playoffs when we really needed it and he became that senior we could count on down the stretch," noted Shaw. "His size made him very versatile on the defensive end being able to defend guards or bigs, which was a difference maker for us.

"It was a very good year for him and I am proud of the improvements he made," added Shaw. "He definitely earned this first-team selection."

Also receiving first-team honors were Canton's Isaiah Niemczyk, NEB's Lucas Crown, Cowanesque Valley's Seth Huyler, Williamson's Kolby Allard, and North Penn-Liberty's Noah Spencer.

SECOND TEAM
Matt Lane, junior, Sayre:
Quick and athletic, Lane played both ends of the floor with equal energy. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.8 rebonds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, and canned 43 3-pointers on the season.

"Matt is a junior who did not get a lot of playing time last year as a sophomore, so this was his first full year of varsity basketball," said Shaw. "I think he made a huge improvement from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

"He was tasked with a big role of being the starting point guard and that's someone who, whether you like it or not, has to be a leader in the floor," noted Shaw. "Matt grew a lot as a person, taking charge of the team on the court and his skills as a player.

"He was another guy who stepped his game up down the stretch in the playoffs when we really needed it, especially on the defensive end," added Shaw. "He had a very good junior season and I'm really looking forward to see what he can do as a senior next year."

Also receiving second-team honors were Canton's Ben Knapp and Zach Rentzel, NEB's Andy Crown, Williamson's Carter Strange, and North Penn-Liberty's Duncan Zeafla.
