STATE COLLEGE "” Tioga senior Sam Taylor, who carded one of two sub-par rounds in the tournament, finished second this weekend in the 18U Division at the State College Junior Open held here at the Toftrees Resort & Golf Club.

Taylor shot a 74 Saturday, thanks to three birdies in the final four holes, and was two shots off the lead, which was held by eventual champion Ryan Bilby of Follansbee, West Va., and Philip Minnehan of Rochester.

On Sunday, Taylor had five birdies and shot a 1-under par round of 71 to finish three shots behind Bilby, who fired a tournament-low round of 70.

Bilby's two-day total of 142 was three shots better than Taylor and Minnehan on the 6,574-yard course.

Horseheads' Zach Locke finished fifth with a two-day total of 151.

TAYLOR, ROBINSON TEAM TO WIN TOURNAMENT

Taylor and fellow Tioga grad Josh Robinson, who is the current golf coach at Keuka College, teamed to win the two-day First Annual County Border Best-Ball Tournament,

Taylor and Robinson fired a 63 at Hiawatha Links on Saturday, and then shot a 68 on Sunday at the En-Joie Golf Club for a winning two-day total of 131.

Waverly grad Ted Darrow and Sayre grad Ryan Murrelle, currently playing at Keuka College, finished tied for third with a two-day total of 135 (67-68).
